The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday announced a series of leadership changes, installing market-structure specialist Jamie Selway as director of the Division of Trading and Markets. Selway, described by the agency as a veteran of the cryptocurrency industry, will oversee rule-making and supervision of U.S. stock exchanges, broker-dealers and alternative trading systems. In the same release, the regulator named Brian Daly, a partner at law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, to head the Division of Investment Management, which regulates mutual funds and registered investment advisers. The SEC also appointed Kurt Hohl as chief accountant, giving him responsibility for setting and enforcing the agency’s accounting policy. The appointments are among the first major personnel moves by Chairman Paul Atkins as he builds out his leadership team. The infusion of officials with digital-assets expertise underscores the SEC’s ongoing effort to adapt its market-oversight framework to rapidly evolving trading technologies.
