House Democrats said an initial tranche of 33,295 pages that the US Department of Justice delivered to the House Oversight Committee under subpoena offers scant new insight into the Jeffrey Epstein case. According to Rep. Robert Garcia of California and Rep. Summer Lee of Pennsylvania, committee staff reviewing the documents found that 97% replicate material already released by federal and Florida authorities, including the inspector-general report on Epstein’s 2019 jail-cell death, surveillance video from that night and court filings from Ghislaine Maxwell’s prosecution. Fewer than 1,000 pages in the set were described as new: US Customs and Border Protection flight-location logs for Epstein’s private jet covering 2000 through 2014. Garcia said the limited disclosure “raises more questions than answers,” while Lee criticized the Justice Department for “pretending to respond” to the bipartisan subpoena issued earlier this month. Oversight Chair James Comer, a Kentucky Republican, said the committee will withhold public release of the material until members complete a review to protect victims’ identities and redact child-sexual-abuse content. DOJ officials have not commented on the Democrats’ assessment but have indicated additional productions are forthcoming as the department complies with the subpoena.
