Ghislaine Maxwell has provided the U.S. Department of Justice with information on roughly 100 people she says are linked to the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, according to her attorney David Oscar Markus. Markus told reporters that Maxwell answered every question posed by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche during a day-and-a-half interview and did not invoke her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. Maxwell, 63, is serving a 20-year federal sentence after her 2021 conviction on sex-trafficking and conspiracy charges tied to Epstein’s abuse of underage girls. Her cooperation comes as she appeals the conviction. Legal observers have suggested Maxwell’s willingness to talk may be aimed at securing clemency; former President Donald Trump, asked about the possibility earlier Friday, said he had not considered it but acknowledged he has the power to grant a pardon or commutation. Markus said prosecutors made no plea or sentencing offer and that Blanche received “answers to every single question.” The Justice Department has not commented on the substance of the interview or on whether it plans to pursue additional charges or investigations based on Maxwell’s disclosures.
