The 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline marked its third anniversary on July 16, 2025. Established by Congress, the lifeline provides free, confidential, and compassionate mental health support 24/7 through call, text, and chat services. Since its launch, over 16.5 million people have reached out for assistance with mental health and substance-related crises. The lifeline also includes specialized support for veterans, who can press 1 to connect directly with the Veterans Crisis Line staffed by professionals, many of whom are veterans themselves. Lawmakers who helped create and fund the lifeline emphasized the ongoing need to expand access to mental health care and encouraged those struggling to seek help through this vital resource.
In the 3 years since Congress created the 988 lifeline, more than 16 million people have received critical mental health support. If you’re struggling, know that you are not alone. Get compassionate crisis support 24/7 via call, text, or chat. Learn more at https://t.co/Ek3I4HNuai
