EvolutionaryScale, a new AI-driven protein design startup founded by ex-Meta scientist Alex Rives, has raised $142 million in seed funding. The funding round was led by Lux Capital, Amazon, and NVIDIA, with contributions from Nat Friedman and Daniel Gross. EvolutionaryScale's AI model can simulate up to 500 million years of biological evolution, aiming to understand biological processes at a molecular level and make biology programmable. The startup's initial achievement includes evolving a new glowing jellyfish protein. The model can also simulate 300 million years of biological evolution.

Biology is becoming digital, rapidly accelerating solving aging. EvolutionaryScale just raised $142M from @natfriedman @danielgross and @Lux_Capital. Their model simulates to understand biological processes at a molecular level to make biology programmable. https://t.co/uCmoWHO5ei
There's a new AI for protein design startup, founded by ex-Meta scientist @alexrives, and backed with $142M seed by Lux, Amazon, and NVIDIA. Its first trick? Evolving a new glowy jellyfish protein. @AndrewE_Dunn and I break down the story for @endpts https://t.co/qXMLKlXian
