London-based Oriole Networks has raised €20.2 million and an additional $22 million in a Series A round to reduce energy consumption in AI data centres. The company, founded out of UCL in 2023, uses light to train Large Language Models (LLMs) with a fraction of the usual AI energy consumption. Oriole Networks aims to scale its revolutionary 'super-brain' solution and accelerate machine learning in a low-carbon world through photonics, developing fully optical interconnect for data centres.
