Bungie said on Thursday that long-time chief executive and studio head Pete Parsons is leaving the company after 23 years, nearly a decade of them as CEO. Parsons confirmed the move in a blog post, writing that "today marks the right time for a new beginning" at the Sony-owned developer. Justin Truman, a 15-year Bungie veteran who most recently served as chief development officer and previously managed Destiny 2, will assume leadership of the studio effective immediately. In his introductory message, Truman pledged to work "alongside every member of the team" as Bungie advances work on its current and upcoming titles. The shake-up follows a turbulent period for the maker of Destiny 2. Sony acquired Bungie for about $3.6 billion in 2022 but has since tightened oversight after the studio delayed its Marathon reboot and cut roughly 220 jobs in 2024. Player engagement with Destiny 2 has also slipped, and Bungie is under pressure to steady live-service revenues within Sony’s PlayStation portfolio. Bungie said development continues on both Destiny 2 and Marathon, with further updates promised later this year.
