Microsoft’s The Coalition today released “Gears of War: Reloaded,” a remaster of the 2006 third-person shooter, on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, Steam, the Xbox cloud service and, for the first time, Sony’s PlayStation 5. The title is priced at $39.99 and is included in Xbox Game Pass on console and PC. Digital owners of 2015’s Gears of War: Ultimate Edition who bought the game before May 5 2025 receive the upgrade at no additional cost. Built on Unreal Engine, Reloaded delivers 4K visuals and a 60-frames-per-second campaign, with multiplayer running at up to 120 fps. The package folds in all post-launch content from earlier versions, adds modern control options and removes campaign loading screens. Cross-play and cross-progression let players form squads and carry saves across Xbox, PlayStation and PC accounts. The launch marks the first appearance of the once-exclusive Xbox franchise on rival hardware, signaling Microsoft’s broader push to place its first-party catalogue on additional platforms after similar moves with titles such as Forza Horizon 5. Studio head Mike Crump said the rerelease is the opening act of the series’ forthcoming 20th-anniversary celebrations, which continue next year with the new prequel, “Gears of War: E-Day.”
