The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan launched a multi-directional attack on the besieged city of El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, on August 11, 2025. El-Fasher has been under siege by the RSF since May 2024 amid ongoing conflict with Sudan's regular army that began in April 2023. The intensified fighting has resulted in at least 40 deaths in a displaced persons camp near El-Fasher. Despite the RSF's attempts to breach city defenses, the Darfur Joint Forces and armed local groups have so far repelled the attacks. Regional authorities in Darfur are reportedly planning joint military operations, with allied movement leaders calling for the formation of a force to break the siege on El-Fasher. The escalating conflict continues to worsen the humanitarian situation for residents of the city.
