In Sudan's besieged city of El-Fasher in the western Darfur region, 63 people have died from malnutrition within the span of one week, according to a senior health official. The fatalities predominantly include women and children amid escalating conflict between the Sudanese army and rival paramilitary groups. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that since the onset of the conflict in October 2023, 98 children have succumbed to acute malnutrition in the area. The ongoing siege and fighting have severely exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in El-Fasher, limiting access to food and medical aid.
