The White House said President Donald Trump will deliver a televised statement from the Oval Office at 12 p.m. Eastern time on Friday, Aug. 22. Officials have not disclosed the subject of the remarks, marking the address as an unusual, high-profile event. The appearance was delayed after the president made an unscheduled stop at Washington’s Kennedy Center, according to pool reports. Members of the press corps were placed in vans for a quick movement, and as of the scheduled start time Trump had not returned to the White House. While the agenda remains unannounced, the timing follows a busy diplomatic stretch. Earlier in the week Trump hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and several European leaders to discuss a pathway toward ending the Russia-Ukraine war, and on Aug. 15 he met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Anchorage. The Oval Office address will be closely watched for any developments on those talks or other policy initiatives.
