Google introduced the Pixel Watch 4 at its “Made by Google” event on Wednesday, making the device the first smartwatch capable of sending Emergency SOS messages via satellite when cellular coverage is unavailable. The feature, limited to the contiguous United States at launch, is bundled free for two years with LTE versions of the watch. Offered in 41 millimeter and 45 millimeter sizes, the fourth-generation wearable gains a brighter Actua 360 domed AMOLED display that reaches 3,000 nits and trims its bezels by 16%. A new Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 chip, paired with a Cortex-M55 co-processor, underpins battery life of up to 30 hours on the smaller model and 40 hours on the larger one with the always-on display enabled; a redesigned side-mounted dock delivers a 50% charge in about 15 minutes. Health and fitness functions remain anchored in Fitbit software but now add a Gemini-powered personal coach that will enter public preview in October for Fitbit Premium subscribers. Users can raise their wrist to talk directly to Gemini for on-device answers, while the watch continues to offer ECG, stress tracking, dual-band GPS and more than 40 exercise modes. Google is stressing longevity as well as features: the aluminium-cased watch allows authorised replacement of both screen and battery. The Wi-Fi versions start at $349 for 41 mm and $399 for 45 mm, with LTE variants priced at $449 and $499. Pre-orders opened immediately, with shipments scheduled to begin on Oct. 9.
