The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has implemented several measures aimed at improving the financial landscape amid ongoing economic challenges. A Kano State High Court has barred the CBN from withholding allocations from the Federation Account to the 44 local government areas in Kano. In a related development, the CBN has ordered bank directors with non-performing insider-related loans to resign immediately, emphasizing a need for stronger corporate governance. Additionally, the CBN has mandated banks to publish details of dormant accounts and unclaimed funds, enhancing transparency in the banking sector. As part of its reforms, the CBN has urged banks to ensure cash availability at Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) following an increase in ATM transaction fees set to take effect on March 1, 2025. This comes as the CBN seeks to strengthen economic ties with the Middle East, as articulated by CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso, who highlighted the importance of collaboration in various sectors.
