UNICEF Reports 46% Rise in Severe Acute Malnutrition Cases Affecting 40,000 Children in Darfur, Khartoum, North Kordofan Amid Local Food Aid Efforts

UNICEF has reported a 46% increase in the number of children suffering from severe acute malnutrition in the Darfur region of Sudan between January and May 2025. More than 40,000 children in North Darfur were admitted for treatment during this period. The rise in malnutrition cases is also noted in Khartoum and North Kordofan. Local community initiatives, such as the "Takaya" centers in cities including Omdurman and Al-Obeid, are actively providing food assistance amid widespread food shortages and rising prices.
