The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused President Bola Tinubu and his administration of exploiting the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari for political gain. The ADC also criticized Tinubu's recent appointments, describing them as a strategy to regain the trust of northern Nigerians. The party is currently at the center of a power struggle involving prominent politicians such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, and Rotimi Amaechi. Former ADC presidential candidate Dumebi Kachikwu accused opposition figures of hijacking the party's structure to support Atiku Abubakar's 2027 presidential bid. Meanwhile, coalition leaders, including Amaechi, have pledged full support for the ADC's eventual presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections. In the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Yilwatda Nentawe, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development, was appointed as the new national chairman, succeeding Abdullahi Ganduje, who stepped down due to health reasons. President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, APC governors, and past party leaders attended the 14th APC National Executive Committee meeting where Nentawe's appointment was confirmed. Nentawe pledged to unite the party and expand its reach nationwide. Additionally, Tinubu announced plans to build a new national secretariat for the APC in Abuja. The APC's Asiwaju Mandate Group committed to delivering over one million votes for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. The Yobe State Government denied reports that Governor Mai Mala Buni intends to defect to the ADC. Former presidential aide Laolu Akande stated that the APC remains structurally better prepared than opposition parties to retain power in 2027. The opposition parties, including the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party, were criticized by the ADC for failing as effective opposition and warned that those who reject coalition efforts are indirectly supporting Tinubu's re-election.
