The Osun State chapter of Nigeria’s opposition Peoples Democratic Party has formally endorsed President Bola Tinubu for re-election in 2027, describing the All Progressives Congress leader as a “son of Osun State.” A communiqué issued after a PDP leadership caucus meeting in Osogbo and signed by Governor Ademola Adeleke, his deputy, the state assembly speaker and other senior figures also backed Adeleke for a second term in the state’s 2026 governorship race. In a separate development, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar said that any threat against 2023 Labour Party candidate Peter Obi "is a threat against all of us," after Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo warned Obi not to enter the state without prior security clearance. Civil-rights firm Festus Ogun Legal has given Okpebholo seven days to withdraw the remark, arguing it violates the constitutional right to free movement. Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike publicly sided with the governor, underscoring the rising political tensions as parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 vote.
