Elon Musk’s artificial-intelligence venture xAI has introduced Grok Code Fast 1, a large-language model aimed at software development tasks. The model—codenamed “Sonic”—offers a 256,000-token context window and is priced at $0.20 per million input tokens and $1.50 per million output tokens, undercutting many competing coding assistants. xAI said the system generates and debugs code in a matter of seconds and performs best with detailed prompts. Early users report that Grok Code Fast 1 is several times quicker than Anthropic’s Claude Code while maintaining accurate, well-documented output. The model is already available through the xAI API and has been rolled out on multiple developer platforms, including Quora’s Poe chat service, GitHub Copilot, and the open-source Kilo Code extension for Microsoft’s Visual Studio Code. Kilo Code’s latest update (versions 4.82.0 through 4.84.1) adds a modes marketplace and offers a seven-day free trial of Grok integration, broadening access for individual programmers.
