The company reportedly extended offers exceeding $1 billion over six years to key figures, including Andrew Tulloch, co-founder of Thinking Machines and former Meta staffer, who declined the offer. Meta also contacted around 100 employees from OpenAI and Thinking Machines, successfully recruiting only about 10. Despite these high-value proposals, many researchers, including former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati, rejected Meta's lucrative offers to join its AI initiatives. Reports indicate that some offers ranged from $200 million to over $1 billion, with a 24-year-old AI researcher reportedly turning down a $125 million offer that Zuckerberg subsequently doubled. This talent war highlights Meta's willingness to invest heavily in AI recruitment, though it faces challenges retaining or attracting leading experts, as rival firms like xAI, led by Elon Musk, continue to compete without offering comparably large salaries.
