Meta Platforms Inc., led by CEO Mark Zuckerberg, has been aggressively expanding its Superintelligence Labs team by recruiting top artificial intelligence researchers from leading competitors. Initially, Meta poached three key researchers—Lucas Beyer, Alexander Kolesnikov, and Xiaohua Zhai—from OpenAI's Zurich office, who had previously worked at DeepMind and played a role in launching OpenAI's Zurich operations. This recruitment reportedly involved bonuses totaling around $100 million. Following this, Meta continued its hiring spree by adding four more AI researchers from OpenAI, including Shengjia Zhao and Jiahui Yu, further strengthening its AI capabilities. Subsequently, Meta hired two prominent AI experts from Apple Inc., Mark Lee and Tom Gunter, shortly after recruiting their former boss Ruoming Pang with a pay package exceeding $200 million. Gunter's deal alone is reported to top $100 million. Most recently, Meta recruited three AI researchers from Google DeepMind—Tianhe Yu, Cosmo Du, and Weiyue Wang—who contributed to a gold medal-winning Gemini model recognized for its achievements in mathematics. These strategic hires underscore Meta's commitment to advancing its superintelligence initiatives by securing leading talent from major technology companies including OpenAI, Apple, and Google.
