Elon Musk said on Tuesday that his artificial-intelligence start-up xAI is scrapping the job title “researcher,” asserting that all technical staff will be classified simply as engineers. He called the researcher designation “a relic term from academia” and described the change as a move to eliminate what he sees as a two-tier system inside the company. The rebranding underscores Musk’s push to position xAI as an engineering-centric organization focused on quickly deploying products rather than pursuing conventional academic research.
