Brazilian pop singer Kelly Key has taken over as president of Kiala Futebol Clube, a youth-focused side based in Viana, Luanda Province. The club was co-founded in 2024 by Key and her husband, Angolan businessman Mico Freitas, as a social initiative aimed at nurturing young athletes and providing educational support. Kiala FC has already won the 2025 provincial Série B1 championships in the under-17 and under-19 categories. Key said the project seeks to combine football training with personal development and community engagement, and that discussions are under way to form partnerships, including a prospective collaboration with Brazil’s Flamengo. By assuming the presidency, Key is believed to be the only woman currently running a football club in Angola and possibly across the continent. She described the appointment as “an act of resistance and purpose,” adding that her goal is to broaden opportunities for women in sports leadership and expand pathways for young Angolan players.
