Argentine singer-songwriter Lucía Victoria “Luvi” Torres has died at the age of 36, the Institute Nacional de la Música (INAMU) confirmed on 14 July. Family and friends said the folk and experimental vocalist passed away on Saturday, 12 July, in Buenos Aires. Torres revealed in 2021 that she had been diagnosed with cancer but publicly rejected chemotherapy and radiotherapy, choosing instead to rely on “Cantar Sana,” an alternative practice she developed that combines vocalisation, meditation and elements of shamanism. While she later claimed on social media to have overcome the disease, her health deteriorated in recent months. No official medical cause of death has been released. Born in 1988, Torres blended ancestral chants with rock, pop and electronic sounds across a decade-long career that began with her 2014 debut album “Ser el agua.” She was also known for activism on environmental and LGBTQ+ issues. Her death has prompted tributes from across Argentina’s music community, which praised her innovative approach to folk traditions and her commitment to using music as a healing tool.
