Dense fog that settled over Buenos Aires early Tuesday forced the closure of Aeroparque Jorge Newbery and disrupted operations at Ezeiza International Airport, the country’s main gateway. Airport operator Aeropuertos Argentina said Aeroparque suspended all take-offs and landings, while reduced visibility at Ezeiza delayed schedules and prompted aircraft to circle or divert. An Aerolíneas Argentinas spokesperson told local media that at least 25 flights were delayed and about 17 were rerouted to cities including Córdoba, Montevideo and São Paulo. Airlines affected included Avianca, Latam, Lufthansa, Air Europa, Copa Airlines and United. Flights from Rome, Miami and Madrid were among those diverted before conditions improved briefly mid-morning. The Servicio Meteorológico Nacional issued a code-violet alert—its lowest-level warning—for Buenos Aires and several central provinces, cautioning that the fog could create “inconveniences” for daily activities. Visibility in some areas fell below 100 metres, hampering road traffic as well as aviation. The weather service expected gradual improvement by Tuesday night but advised motorists to drive slowly with low beams and keep abreast of updates.
