Argentine economist and political leader Javier Milei announced an extensive reform agenda, claiming it is 80 times larger than the reforms implemented by former President Carlos Menem, with around 8,000 structural reforms enacted. Milei criticized the country’s nearly 100 years of economic destruction and accused the Justicialist Party (PJ) of being willing to commit fraud in the upcoming Buenos Aires provincial elections scheduled for September 7. He also dismissed concerns about economic hardship, stating that if people were truly unable to make ends meet, the streets would be filled with casualties. Meanwhile, Milei’s party, La Libertad Avanza (LLA), is moving closer to an electoral alliance with the PRO party to compete together in the City of Buenos Aires elections. Karina Milei and former President Mauricio Macri finalized this agreement, with Karina securing the fifth and sixth positions on the candidate list for LLA. In Buenos Aires Province, Sebastián Pareja and Cristian Ritondo reaffirmed their alliance and prepared a joint presentation of eight libertarian candidates. Economic challenges persist in Argentina, with economist Martín Redrado highlighting a recent jump in the exchange rate and a decline in consumption. Additionally, concerns about the impact of Senate-approved tax increases on Milei’s economic plans were raised by analyst Luciana Vázquez, who suggested such measures could undermine both his administration and Argentina’s economy.
