The 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting commenced in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from July 8 to 11, 2025, with an opening ceremony held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The meeting is chaired by Malaysia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad, and attended by ASEAN Foreign Ministers, Secretary-General Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, and representatives from Timor-Leste. The sessions focused on reinforcing ASEAN’s unity, dialogue, and commitment to regional peace and prosperity. During the meeting, ASEAN foreign ministers signed a treaty of cooperation. In his opening remarks, the chair called on all parties involved in Myanmar to create a conducive environment for upcoming elections. However, the bloc currently maintains that the 5-point consensus remains the primary framework for resolving the Myanmar crisis rather than elections.
