Australian actor Julian McMahon, best known for playing the suave plastic surgeon Dr. Christian Troy on FX’s “Nip/Tuck” and the villain Doctor Doom in the early-2000s “Fantastic Four” films, died on 2 July in Clearwater, Florida. He was 56. McMahon’s wife, Kelly, said in a statement released 4 July that he died peacefully after a private battle with cancer. A subsequent report from the Pinellas County Medical Examiner, cited by multiple U.S. media outlets, listed the cause of death as lung metastasis stemming from head and neck metastatic cancer and ruled the death natural. Over a three-decade career, McMahon moved from Australian soap operas to Hollywood, amassing credits that included “Charmed,” “Profiler” and three seasons as FBI team leader Jess LaCroix on CBS’s “FBI: Most Wanted.” His portrayal of Christian Troy earned a 2005 Golden Globe nomination and helped make “Nip/Tuck” one of FX’s signature series. Born in Sydney on 27 July 1968, Julian Dana William McMahon was the only son of Sir William McMahon, Australia’s prime minister from 1971 to 1972. He is survived by his wife, their daughter Madison, and extended family. Tributes from former co-stars such as Alyssa Milano and Ioan Gruffudd praised his charisma, professionalism and humor.
