Actor Michael Madsen, best known for his menacing turn as Mr. Blonde in Quentin Tarantino’s “Reservoir Dogs” and for later roles in “Kill Bill” and “The Hateful Eight,” died on 3 July at his home in Malibu, California. He was 67. Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to a 911 call and pronounced him dead at 8:25 a.m., with no signs of foul play. Madsen’s manager, Ron Smith, said the actor suffered cardiac arrest. On 8 July, the physician who had been treating him told NBCLA the official cause will be listed as heart failure, with underlying heart disease and alcoholism cited as contributing factors. The doctor signed the death certificate, and authorities do not plan an autopsy. Born in Chicago in 1957, Madsen amassed more than 300 film and television credits across four decades, ranging from early work in “Thelma & Louise” to family-friendly hits such as “Free Willy.” A regular collaborator of Tarantino, he was celebrated for portraying morally ambiguous tough guys. Madsen had recently completed several independent projects and was preparing to publish a poetry collection titled “Tears For My Father.” He is survived by his sister, the Oscar-nominated actor Virginia Madsen, and six children.
