The World Meteorological Organization has confirmed a new record for the longest lightning strike ever measured. The lightning flash lasted more than seven seconds and stretched across 829 kilometers (515 miles) in the United States. This event surpasses previous records and highlights the extensive reach lightning can have during thunderstorms. The strike was captured by NASA Spaceflight cameras, showing a span of about 140.1 kilometers originating off the coast and traveling toward the Orlando metropolitan area. Separately, a dramatic incident occurred in Beihai, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, where a lightning bolt struck a moving vehicle during a thunderstorm, causing it to catch fire instantly.
