Bangladesh has settled its entire backlog of payments to India’s Adani Power, wiring a one-time sum of $437 million in June that clears all receivables through 31 March. The payment ends months of mounting arrears under the cross-border power purchase agreement covering electricity generated at Adani’s 1,600-megawatt Godda plant in Jharkhand. The move restores the contract to a normal financial footing after outstanding bills had approached $900 million as recently as May. Under the settlement, Adani agreed to waive delayed-payment charges provided Dhaka cleared the dues by 30 June, a condition the government met. To prevent future slippage, Bangladesh Power Development Board has opened a Letter of Credit worth about $180 million—roughly two months of average invoices of $90–100 million—and extended a sovereign guarantee for remaining obligations. With payments regularised, both 800 MW units have been instructed to remain fully available to meet Bangladesh’s domestic demand.
