A 35-year-old Canadian woman died after falling ill on the opening night of the Tomorrowland electronic-music festival in Boom, Belgium, festival spokeswoman Debby Wilmsen said. The woman received first aid at the venue on 18 July before being transported to the University Hospital of Antwerp, where she was pronounced dead early on 19 July. The Antwerp public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation and ordered an autopsy and toxicology tests to determine the cause of death. Initial findings cited by local media point to a possible drug-related incident, though officials have not reached a conclusion. Global Affairs Canada confirmed it is in contact with Belgian authorities but declined further comment, citing privacy rules. The fatality occurs only days after a fire destroyed Tomorrowland’s main stage on 17 July. Organizers erected an alternative structure and proceeded with the event, which is expected to draw about 400,000 visitors across two weekends through 27 July.
