A group of local fishermen filmed a great white shark estimated at 16 to 18 feet long swimming alongside their boat off La Jolla, San Diego, over the weekend of 28–29 June. Video of the encounter shows the shark passing close to the hull before a sea lion appeared and the predator moved away. The close-range sighting is among the first confirmed great-white encounters off San Diego this summer. No injuries were reported, and beaches remained open, but the episode prompted fresh reminders that while shark attacks along California’s coast are rare, boaters and swimmers should keep a safe distance from large marine wildlife.
