In May 2025, approximately 20 major cryptocurrency hacks were recorded, resulting in total losses of about $244 million, a 39% decrease compared to April 2025. A significant portion of the stolen funds, about $157 million, was recovered or frozen by Cetus Protocol and SUI, representing a 71% recovery rate from a $220 million theft. Among the notable incidents, Taiwanese crypto exchange BitoPro was reportedly exploited for approximately $11.5 million on May 8, 2025. The attack involved unauthorized access to hot wallets across multiple blockchains, with stolen assets laundered through Tornado Cash, Thorchain, and eventually moved to Wasabi Wallet. BitoPro has not officially acknowledged the breach, citing system maintenance for a temporary service suspension. Another reported hack targeted Nervos Network’s Force Bridge, resulting in the theft of approximately $3.9 million in assets, including ETH and BNB. A failed exploit attempt occurred about six hours before the successful attack. The stolen funds were swapped to ETH.
