Boston Celtics minority owner Steve Pagliuca has reached an agreement to purchase the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun for a record-setting $325 million, according to multiple reports citing a person familiar with the transaction. Pagliuca’s investment group intends to move the franchise to Boston for the 2027 season and has earmarked roughly $100 million for a dedicated practice facility in the city, the person said. The deal would be the highest price ever paid for a WNBA team and underscores the league’s rising valuations. The transaction requires approval from the WNBA and its Board of Governors. If cleared, the Sun would become the first WNBA club based in Boston, expanding the league’s footprint in a major basketball market while ending the team’s two-decade tenure in Connecticut.
