Brazilian Finance Minister Fernando Haddad has publicly supported the decision by Supreme Federal Court (STF) Minister Alexandre de Moraes regarding the tax on financial operations (IOF). Moraes suspended certain acts related to the IOF and called for a conciliation meeting between the government and Congress, a move Haddad described as positive for the country and potentially strengthening the powers of the Republic. Following this, Haddad met with congressional leaders Hugo Motta and Davi Alcolumbre, along with Gleisi Hoffmann, to resume dialogue and seek solutions to the IOF impasse ahead of a scheduled STF conciliation hearing. Haddad expressed confidence in a swift resolution by Moraes and acknowledged the legitimacy of Moraes' decision concerning the risk on IOF charges. After the STF upheld the government's IOF decree, Haddad characterized Moraes' ruling as marked by "sobriety" and indicated that compensatory measures for any revenue loss due to the revoked portion of the decree would be evaluated starting the following week. He also noted that the revenue loss from Moraes' decision is limited and emphasized the importance of upholding the Constitution.
