The Peruvian restaurant Maido, located in Lima and led by chef Mitsuharu 'Micha' Tsumura, has been named the best restaurant in the world in the 2025 edition of The World's 50 Best Restaurants. Maido is recognized for its innovative fusion of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine, also known as Nikkei cuisine. This marks the second time a Peruvian restaurant has received this top honor, following Central by Virgilio Martínez in 2023. The Spanish restaurant Asador Etxebarri ranked second, with Mexico City's Quintonil and Madrid's DiverXO placing third and fourth respectively. The list features a total of 50 top restaurants globally, with nine from Latin America. Brazil is represented by Lasai, a restaurant in Rio de Janeiro led by chef Rafa Costa e Silva, which climbed 30 positions to secure the 28th spot as the only Brazilian entry on the list. Maido has previously been recognized as the best restaurant in Latin America four times in the Latam 50 Best ranking. The announcement was made in Turin, Italy, and has received congratulations from the Peruvian government.
