São Paulo experienced its coldest night and morning of 2025 on June 25, with temperatures dropping to as low as -0.6ºC in the Parelheiros neighborhood in the city's extreme south. The average temperature in the city was around 6ºC, marking the coldest period in nine years for the capital. In the interior of São Paulo state, temperatures reached even lower, with a recorded minimum of -2.4ºC. Following this cold snap, the city continued to experience unusually low temperatures, with afternoons in early July registering highs not exceeding 13ºC to 14ºC, accompanied by rain and wind chill. Concurrently, the southern Brazilian states of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina faced an intense cold wave starting in early July, with more than 70 municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul reporting subzero temperatures, including a minimum of -5ºC in Getúlio Vargas. The cold spell caused frost and snowfall in some areas, and over 1,200 people were relocated to shelters in Rio Grande do Sul due to the severe weather conditions. This cold front persisted through early July, bringing the coldest afternoons recorded in São Paulo since 2020 and continuing to impact the southern region with freezing temperatures and adverse weather.
