Ricardo Nunes, the mayor of São Paulo, met with Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican on June 25, 2025, during the Jubilee of the Bishops. During the meeting, Nunes presented the pope with several gifts, including a ceramic plate featuring symbols of São Paulo, a Palmeiras football club jersey, and a tennis racket belonging to Brazilian player Bia Haddad. Following the encounter, Pope Leo XIV promised to visit São Paulo in the future. The mayor also sought the pope's blessing for the city during this visit.
