British actress Emma Watson has been disqualified from driving for six months and ordered to pay £1,044 after a U.K. court ruled that a speeding offence last year pushed her over the 12-point limit that triggers an automatic ban. High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court heard that Watson was clocked at 38 mph in a 30 mph zone in Oxford on 31 July 2024. The ‘Harry Potter’ star already had nine points on her licence from earlier infractions; the latest incident added three more. Watson, who is studying for a master’s degree in creative writing at the University of Oxford, did not attend the five-minute hearing. Her lawyer, Mark Haslam, said she is able to pay the fine. In a separate case heard by the same court on the same day, fellow ‘Harry Potter’ actress Zoe Wanamaker received an identical six-month ban and £1,044 fine for driving 46 mph in a 40 mph zone in Berkshire last August. Both rulings underline the U.K. penalty-points system, which mandates a half-year suspension once a driver accumulates 12 points within three years.
