Formula One stewards have imposed a 10-place grid penalty on Haas rookie Oliver Bearman for Sunday’s British Grand Prix after the 20-year-old failed to comply with red-flag rules during the final practice session at Silverstone. The Briton was also given four penalty points on his FIA super licence, lifting his 12-month total to eight; an automatic race ban is triggered at 12 points. Stewards said Bearman initially slowed for the second red flag of the session but then accelerated to racing speed and entered the pit-lane slip road at 260 kilometres per hour, faster than on a normal in-lap. He lost control and hit the barriers, damaging the front of his VF-25. The panel concluded that he had not proceeded "slowly back to the pit lane" as required by the sporting regulations. The sanction is Bearman’s second 10-place drop in 12 races, following a similar infringement in Monaco, and comes at his first home Grand Prix. Starting positions for Sunday’s race will reflect the penalty regardless of where he qualifies.
