
Horse Racing Ireland has pledged its support for any Department of Agriculture or garda investigation following revelations by RTÉ Investigates into the Irish and European equine industries. The RTÉ Investigates programme uncovered shocking abuse, including the repeated beating of dying horses, and highlighted suspicions of illegal slaughtering and traceability defects among hundreds of horses killed for human consumption. Sinn Féin's Finance Spokesperson Pearse Doherty has called for immediate action and accountability. Minister for Agriculture Charlie McConalogue stated that those found abusing horses will face the full rigour of the law.
