River Island, a UK-based high street fashion retailer with 223 stores across the UK and Ireland, has received approval from the High Court for its restructuring plans. As part of this process, the company will close 33 stores across the UK. The restructuring plan has helped River Island avoid administration and is expected to save more than 4,000 jobs. The retailer also successfully resolved a rent dispute with Mike Ashley, which was a key factor in averting collapse. The store closures put hundreds of jobs at risk, although the company’s overall restructuring aims to stabilize its operations.
