Independent UK developer Bithell Games has announced redundancies affecting 11 employees, a figure the studio says represents the majority of its full-time workforce. Founder Mike Bithell said the cuts follow the company’s inability to secure backing for a new, larger-scale project despite discussions with potential partners throughout 2024 and 2025. The downsizing comes less than two months after the studio launched Tron: Catalyst, its latest licensed title, and follows the July delisting of John Wick Hex. Bithell stressed that support for the studio’s existing self-published catalogue, including earlier successes such as Thomas Was Alone and Volume, will continue. Affected staff will receive severance packages, and Bithell urged other game companies to consider hiring the departing developers. The move adds to the wave of job losses across the videogame industry this year as smaller studios struggle to secure funding amid tightening market conditions.
