The UK Gambling Commission has imposed a £3.3 million penalty on TGP Europe, a white label gambling operator that operated 29 websites, following an investigation into anti-money laundering and due diligence failures. TGP Europe, which was previously fined £316,250 in 2023, has surrendered its UK licence and exited the British market. The regulator has contacted five football clubs—AFC Bournemouth, Burnley, Fulham, Newcastle United, and Wolverhampton Wanderers—whose sponsorship deals with TGP Europe are now in question. The Gambling Commission is seeking assurances from these clubs that they have taken steps to prevent promotion of unlicensed gambling websites to UK consumers. Spreadex Limited, an online gambling firm, has been fined £2,022,000 by the Gambling Commission for anti-money laundering and social responsibility failings. The company failed to properly engage with a customer who exceeded a daily deposit limit of £3,340 on 12 occasions within 14 days and did not obtain adequate evidence of the source of funds for large deposits, resulting in a customer losing £50,000 in one month. Spreadex is required to undergo a third-party audit. This is the second enforcement action against Spreadex, which previously paid a £1.36 million regulatory settlement in 2022. PointsBet Australia has been fined A$500,800 (approximately $500,000) by the Australian Communications and Media Authority for breaching spam and gambling self-exclusion laws. The company sent more than 800 marketing messages to individuals on the BetStop self-exclusion register and failed to include unsubscribe functions in some emails. The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) has imposed its largest-ever fine, nearly £4 million, on the former non-solicitor owner of the collapsed law firm Kingly Solicitors Ltd. The firm, which had 16 offices and 180 staff, was closed in 2020 after investigations revealed 310 improper transfers from client accounts to companies linked to Nurul Miah, resulting in a £10 million client account shortfall and £17 million owed to creditors. The SRA secured £22.5 million in client money and collected 220,000 files, including more than 90,000 wills and deeds. All SRA fines are paid to HM Treasury. The SRA has also disqualified other individuals involved and referred its findings to law enforcement authorities. Anglian Water has been fined a record £1.42 million after failures led to flakes and powder from unapproved plastic-based coatings entering the drinking water supply for about 1.3 million people in the East of England. The company admitted five offences under the Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2016, and the issues have since been rectified.
