$AMZN - Amazon Announces Major Grocery Expansion: Tens of Millions of Prime Members Can Now Shop Perishable Groceries Alongside the Rest of Amazon’s Same-Day Selection with Fast, Free Delivery https://t.co/zClx0CAJDa
Amazon.com Inc. expanded its same-day delivery service to include perishable groceries such as produce, meat, dairy and frozen foods, allowing tens of millions of Prime members in more than 1,000 U.S. cities to receive fresh items alongside regular merchandise. Prime customers get free delivery on grocery orders above $25; those that fall below the threshold incur a $2.99 fee, while non-members pay $12.99 per order. The company plans to reach more than 2,300 cities and towns by the end of 2025, marking one of its largest pushes yet into the $100-billion-plus grocery market. Doug Herrington, chief executive of Worldwide Amazon Stores, said the move is intended to make grocery shopping “simpler, faster and more affordable,” leveraging Amazon’s existing temperature-controlled fulfillment network. The broadened service complements Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market and third-party local partnerships, positioning the Seattle-based retailer to capture a larger share of U.S. grocery spending as consumers increasingly combine routine food purchases with general online shopping.
