Today is one of the hardest days we’ve had at Eigen Labs. This morning, I shared plans for a restructuring of the company, streamlining our operations, and concentrating our efforts on building and scaling EigenCloud. Unfortunately, this means saying goodbye to brilliant
Bloomberg News has laid off roughly a dozen journalists worldwide as part of a wide-ranging newsroom restructuring, according to an internal memo from Editor-in-Chief John Micklethwait. The move is unusual for the 2,700-strong operation, which rarely reduces staff, but Micklethwait said the company still expects “to end this year with a bigger newsroom than we started.” Under the overhaul, Bloomberg is merging its Credit, Finance, Investing, Legal and Wealth teams into a single unit led by Sree Vidya Bhaktavatsalam to sharpen coverage of fast-growing private markets. The organisation is also combining regional news desks to create a seven-day front-page operation and accelerating the rollout of artificial-intelligence tools for editing and translation. Video output is being consolidated under Kristin Powers, aligning editorial control with recent changes on the commercial side of Bloomberg Media. Additional shifts include unifying photography teams and realigning senior roles in London, Singapore and New York. While the job losses are modest, the memo characterises them as part of a broader effort to streamline operations and focus on growth areas across the multibillion-dollar information provider.
