Coinbase has hired the pseudonymous crypto-influencer AlexOnchain as its first Head of Crypto Twitter Communications, the U.S. exchange confirmed after allowing him to run its account for an hour in a publicity stunt on Friday. AlexOnchain, who previously led community efforts at rival exchange Binance, is expected to sharpen Coinbase’s voice on X and improve the company’s reputation among retail traders and industry insiders. Financial terms of the full-time appointment were not disclosed. In a nod to crypto-native culture, Coinbase also switched its Twitter profile picture to a Pengu non-fungible token. The move underscores Chief Executive Officer Brian Armstrong’s push to deepen engagement with online communities as regulatory pressure and competition in the exchange business intensify.
