Alphabet Inc.’s Google said on 13 Aug. it will spend an additional $9 billion in Oklahoma over the next two years to expand its cloud computing and artificial-intelligence infrastructure, deepening a presence it first established in the state in 2011. The outlay covers construction of a new data-center campus near Stillwater and an expansion of Google’s existing facility in Pryor, already the company’s second-largest data center globally. Governor Kevin Stitt called the commitment the biggest single private investment in Oklahoma’s history, bringing the company’s total spending in the state to more than $13 billion. Google said the package also funds workforce-development and education initiatives, including AI training for students at the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University and a partnership with the Electrical Training Alliance to prepare energy-infrastructure workers. The move comes weeks after Alphabet lifted its 2025 capital-expenditure outlook to roughly $85 billion as it races to build data-center capacity for generative-AI services.
