Farm-equipment maker Deere & Co. said it will spend about $20 billion over the next decade to expand and modernize its U.S. manufacturing footprint, deepening its commitment to domestic production of tractors, combines and construction machinery. The program focuses on advanced manufacturing, product development and digital technologies, according to Cory Reed, president of the company’s North American agriculture and turf division. Among the projects already under way are a $70 million excavator plant in Kernersville, North Carolina, a $40 million expansion of the Des Moines, Iowa, factory to build AI-enabled See & Spray sprayers, and a $150 million renovation of the East Moline, Illinois, facility to produce X9 combines. Deere employs roughly 30,000 people at more than 60 U.S. sites and says nearly 80% of its domestic sales come from products made in the country. The company expects the new outlays to bolster its supply chain, support technology adoption in farming and construction, and sustain employment in rural communities it has served since its founding in 1837.
