Cameroon has formally set its next presidential election for 12 October 2025. The date was announced in a decree signed by long-serving President Paul Biya, according to government documents cited by local media. The timetable gives the country’s fragmented opposition three months to finalise talks on forming a common front against Biya’s Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement. Negotiations toward a single opposition ticket have intensified but have yet to produce a definitive agreement. Separately, a regional summit of Central African heads of state that observers expected to clarify Biya’s own intentions for the race has been postponed, leaving open whether the 92-year-old leader will seek another term.
