$AMZN | Canada's Competition Bureau: Obtained Court Order to Advance Investigation of Amazon's Marketplace Fair Pricing Policy
Canada’s Competition Bureau said it has secured a Federal Court order compelling Amazon.com Inc. to hand over records as part of an expanded investigation into the retailer’s Marketplace “Fair Pricing Policy.” The watchdog is examining whether the policy, which lets Amazon remove listings it deems overpriced compared with other sellers, restricts competition and results in higher fees for merchants that are ultimately passed on to consumers. The latest action deepens scrutiny the Bureau first initiated in June 2024 into Amazon’s marketing practices. Investigators now plan to review internal documents and data to determine if the pricing rules hinder third-party sellers from offering discounts on their own sites or rival platforms. The agency did not specify a timeline for its findings. Amazon has not publicly commented on the new court order.
